There are many things to do here in Galloway its not just Food,Art and Books its where the mountains come down to the sea and the woodlands, forests and lochs are alive with nature. Please see some of the things to do that await you here in Glorious Galloway both in and outdoors.
Galloway rests along Scotland‚s south coast, warmed by the gulf stream, enjoying more days
of sunshine than you would imagine.
Galloway is life as it used to be, peaceful. There’s time here. No queues and traffic jams, no
yellow lines and parking meters. A place to relax, to ponder, to contemplate and to enjoy
conversation. But, at its heart, Galloway is vibrant with our three small towns of character,
with food, arts and books - literary festivals and book events; galleries, artists‚ studios,
exhibitions; distilleries and breweries, with delicatessen and chocolatiers.
Indented coastlines, with cliffs, coves and caves, with bays and beaches of sand, rock and
shells. The largest natural wildlife bay reserve in the UK is here, home to sea birds and
ospreys. Peninsulas host coastal and rural villages, each with an island feel to them, many
still with their village stores and their warm welcomes.
Ever-changing acres of sky by day, dramatic sunsets, and star filled heavens at night. No
light pollution to weaken their brilliance. Views across the Solway Firth, to the Cumbrian
mountains and the Isle of Man, are breathtaking on clear days. To the North are the Galloway
Hills, cloaked in woods and forests, rivers and waterfalls, where wild goats and deer roam,
kites soar, salmon and trout fill the rivers and lochs.
Galloway is home to ancient celtic stone circles, and spiritual places, the cradle of
Christianity in Scotland where St Ninian founded his abbey and people came on pilgrimage.
