Whether you are looking for a special evening out in stylish surroundings or wishing to have a meal in a pub type atmosphere you will always find quality food & drink available in many of the towns and villages in our area.

We have celebrity chefs or good home style cooking available in many restaurants, hotel dining and cafes. In all the establishments the use of local farmed, caught, grown or produced products are well established on most menus. Many establishments also offer locally brewed beers & lagers as well as other Scottish products.

Many menus feature Galloway Cattle (Black and Belties) and Black Faced Sheep as these beef and sheep breeds are famous for their quality and flavour . Other menu favourites are scallops which are a major part of the fishing industry in Galloway as well as cockles and mussels. The local rivers and estuaries enable traditional net fishing of sea trout and salmon to take place during allocated seasons hence fresh and smoked products can be found on many menus in season. Crab, lobster and langoustines are also locally caught and available in many restaurants during the season.

Castle Douglas where the main livestock markets on Tuesdays and Thursdays are held, acts as a pivotal centre as the Food Town.
