Creetown, originally Ferrytown of Cree, is a small town of about 700 people in Dumfries and Galloway
on the north side of the Solway Firth. As the name indicates there was once a ferry crossing the River
Cree estuary to the former county town of Wigtown. Internationally, it is best known for its Country
Music Festival held annually in September and for being at the centre of filming for the cult movie
The Wicker Man. However, the town is also in a central position for visitors to Galloway. Creetown is
halfway between Dumfries and Stranraer, but is set back from the A75 trunk route, preserving its calm.
Visitors staying in Creetown have excellent access by road to the many local attractions, as well as
excellent views across the Solway and the Cree. |
